Wu Jing is the “Legendary Assassin”

Wu Jing might not be as much a household name as, say, Donnie Yen or Jet Li, but if you’ve watched Sha Po Lang — in which he plays an assassin with a bad bleach job — than you know the man’s got some serious skills. Which isn’t too surprising, seeing as how he’s been training in kung fu since he was six, and won several national competitions as a member of the Beijing Wushu Team (which is where Jet Li got his start as well).

He’s starred in a couple of low-key kung fu films, such as Tai Chi Boxer and Drunken Monkey, but it was really Sha Po Lang that got everyone to take notice, thanks to a strong-yet-silent performance and some killer moves (including an awesome duel with Donnie Yen). Since then, Jing has gone on to such films as Fatal Contact and Invisible Target. His next movie, Legendary Assassin, is also his directorial debut.

From the looks of things, some folks have been studying the recent Thai action films. There’s some stuff in the above trailer that remind me of Ong-Bak and Tom Yum Goong, but it still looks pretty darn impressive, especially that rain-soaked brawl. I hope they paid those stuntmen some overtime.
