The new trailer for Pan’s Labyrinth

As much as I liked Hellboy and Blade II, I’d have to say that my fave Guillermo del Toro film is still The Devil’s Backbone, and I think one of the primary reasons is the historical setting (during the Spanish civil war).

The setting added an additional layer of realism to the film, a “lived in” sensibility that jived quite nicely with and helped to ground the film’s more fantastical elements. His newest film, Pan’s Labyrinth, is another “period piece,” and if the latest trailer is any indication, it’ll be another fantastic film (and I do mean “fantastic” — just get a load of all of the beasties).

Now if only someone would greenlight At the Mountains of Madness.
