The latest from Tracey Thorn

Tracey Thorn has one of those voices, meaning that if she’s singing — be it in Everything But the Girl or as a solo artist — I will listen. Case in point, the singles from Thorn’s new solo album, Love and Its Opposite, that have appeared throughout the blogosphere.

The most recent is “Why Does The Wind,” a rather stripped down dance-y number. And before that came “Oh, The Divorces!,” an intimate little piano and strings ballad. And while both tracks are nice enough musically — I prefer “Oh, The Divorces!” a little bit more — it’s ultimately Thorn’s soulful, sensitive voice that stays with me.

Love and Its Opposite will be released 5/18 on Merge Records.
