Star Trek: Picard’s First Trailer Has Arrived

Oh, Picard… you had me at “Engage.”

This year’s San Diego Comic-Con really knows how to deliver on the ol’ nostalgia. First, there was that awesome trailer for Top Gun: Maverick. And now there’s the first trailer for the upcoming Star Trek: Picard series, which finds Sir Patrick Stewart returning as the estimable Jean-Luc Picard to face a new threat. Or is it an old and familiar one?

And he won’t be alone. Some familiar faces pop up in the trailer, including Seven of Nine, Hugh the Borg, and best of all, Data. (They don’t appear in the trailer but Deanna Troi and William Riker are also slated to make appearances, as is Picard’s four-legged companion.)

Though no official synopsis has been released, the presence of both Seven of Nine and Hugh practically guarantees that the Borg will appear as well, as does the blink-and-you’ll-miss-it appearance of a Borg cube ship. Could the Collective be returning in some new form to threaten the galaxy again? And what of the young woman who has sought out Picard’s protection, apparently forcing him to recruit a crew of ne’er-do-wells to join him on a less-than-sanctioned mission?

Star Trek: Picard will air on CBS’ All Access streaming service in early 2020. I’ve been skeptical of signing up for yet another streaming service, but I’m willing to change my mind for Picard.
