Emotions By Mike

As I’ve mentioned before, I love a good website background, and to be perfectly honest, I think I’ve spent as much time soaking in the lovely, subtle background of Emotions By Mike as I have looking through his impressive portfolio.

I love the primary image of the brightly-colored tights draped over the top edge — not only does it add a splash of color to the design, but there’s something somewhat flirtatious-yet-playful about it as well. And then there’s the lovely gradients and shades of green — very simple and subtle, and yet it adds so much depth and space to the site’s design.

Unlike many designers, including yours truly, there is no blog, no link list, or any other method on the site for Mike to express himself. Not that he needs to — the portfolio definitely speaks for itself.

As with his portfolio site, there’s a wonderful eye for detail and subtlety — distinctive background images (“Palme Theatre” design), great use of shadows and fades (“Legal Aid” design), and plenty of whitespace (“Cass County, IN Chamber Of Commerce” site). Some of the layouts are a little same-y — he definitely loves the single, slightly off-center background image — but that’s a fairly minor complaint in my book.

Definitely one for the “Inspiration” bookmarks.
