Are You Awesome Enough for This Ninja Film Festival?

New York’s Old School Kung Fu Fest is putting together a line-up of films honoring those sneakiest and coolest of cinematic assassins.
Revenge of the Ninja

Ninjas. Is there anything cooler, especially in movies? Sure, in reality ninjas weren’t elite warriors with supernatural killing skills, but in the movies, there’s nothing they can’t do, and that’s why we love them. And so, as Twitch reports, New York’s Old School Kung Fu Fest is putting together a line-up of films honoring those sneakiest and coolest of cinematic assassins.

Since the dawn of time, man’s natural predator has been the ninja. Hiding in your shower, crouching behind your laptop, clinging to your back — the ninja is everywhere. What killed the dinosaurs? Ninja. What battles great white shark? Ninja. Who is buying flowers for your mom? Probably ninja. But ninja is not vampire! Ninja can be filmed! This year’s Old School Kung Fu Fest examines this crazy natural phenomena of ninja with 14 movies that show you this sneaky fighter in the only place where he cannot shoot throwing stars into your eyes: on the movie screen!

The fest’s selection of ninja movies is pretty impressive, and features some true classics. I, for one, would absolutely love to see Duel to the Death, Five Element Ninjas, and Revenge of the Ninja on the big screen, particularly if it’s a rare 35mm print (which is the case with Five Element Ninjas. And I’ve never seen any of the Shinobi No Mono series, considered by some to be the prototypical ninja movies.

Tickets for the festival, which begins on April 16, can be ordered here. To whet your appetite and give you a dose of ninja awesome-ness, watch the festival’s trailer below.
