The Birth of Us by Mothersfavoritechild (Review)

This band has captured the vibe and realness of ’70s R&B

I just listened to a demo sampler of the band mothersfavoritechild and was blown away. I am a very hard to please funk and soul fan and truly am not happy with the way ’90s R&B has evolved until today. This band has captured the vibe and realness of ’70s R&B and can best be compared to Curtis Mayfield’s or Donny Hathaway’s live albums. Their audio can be downloaded at their website mothersfavoritechild.com. You should really check out this band.

Track 1 (“SIMPLY U”) is a beautiful ballad where the vocals and lyrics definitely stand out. Track 2 (“MORE”) is an uptempo funk groove which sounds a little like the UK soul. Track 3 (“BIRTH OF US”) is my personal favorite; the band’s overtones and colors are truly refreshing. Track 4 (“IF I SAY NOTHING”) reminds me of the Bill Withers days.
