What’s going on?

Just because I’m on vacation doesn’t mean I’m out of the loop…

AICN just posted a review of Zhang Yimou’s Hero, a film that I’ve written about here before. Please Miramax, release it here soon.

I had a chance to see Spirited Away while I was in Chicago. It’s one of those movies that I enjoyed, but I need to see it again before I can really start processing it. Jeffrey Overstreet has an excellent review up on Looking Closer, one of those reviews that makes me want to see it again and again.

On October 8, Central Park Media is releasing a Collector’s Edition of Grave of the Fireflies. If you’ve never seen this movie, I can assure you it’s one of the most powerful and moving films I’ve ever seen. I don’t often give blanket recommendations, but this tragic story of a brother and sister trying to survive in post-WWII Japan gets my wholehearted recommendation, regardless of who you are.
