What a Planet

Is this the summer of movies with crappy endings or what? First, there was A.I. (yeah, I’m still pissed about that). I just got back from seeing Planet of the Apes, and so far, I’m 2 for 2. Just so you know, there is a twist ending, but I have to believe that Tim Burton meant it as comical. If not, I’m going to feel real bad for laughing straight through the movie’s last 10 minutes. Unfortunately, the rest of the movie wasn’t much better.

Where do I begin? The monkey love scene, complete with chimp bellydancer? Mark Wahlberg’s motivational speech to the humans, which felt like it was lifted from a rough draft of Independence Day? The way the movie referred to/ripped off the original Planet of the Apes? Granted, Charlton Heston’s cameo was nice… but as soon as I heard him cry “Damn them all to hell!,” I nearly lost it.

Sigh… it’s still 5 more months until The Fellowship of the Ring. I don’t know if I can hold on that long…
