Watch the First Trailer for Amazon’s Tales From the Loop

The Amazon original is inspired by Simon Stålenhag’s fantastical artwork.

Ever since 2013, Simon Stålenhag’s imaginative paintings that depict advanced technology littering an alternate version of the Swedish countryside have garnered an increasing number of fans. His strangely nostalgic artwork has inspired art books, a novel, and even a role-playing game. And now, it has a TV series courtesy of Amazon.

Starring Jonathan Pryce, Paul Schneider, and Rebecca Hall, Tales From the Loop follows the adventures of a town built on top of the Loop, “a machine built to unlock and explore the mysteries of the universe” (according to the synopsis). Amazon has released the first trailer (watch it above) and consider me intrigued. Very intrigued.

No doubt there will be some Stranger Things comparisons due to the story being about bizarre occurrences happening in a small town. However, Tales From the Loop looks more whimsical and fantastical, and less indebted to horror and the ’80s (though I’m sure the show will have its fair share of spookiness).

Amazon will begin streaming Tales From the Loop on April 3.
