The Friendly Atheist: Religion vs. Relationship

A pretty standard Christian saying is “I’m not religious, I’m in a relationship.” Which, as Jake at Between The Trees points out, is entirely Biblical (think about all of the bride/groom imagery used to explain the relationship between Christ and the Church). But Hemant Mehta (aka The Friendly Atheist) thinks that sounds pretty smug and dishonest: “Just say it. You’re Christians. Stop with the We’re not Christians. We’re not part of a religion. We just believe that Jesus Christ died for our sins.”
