The Fountain Teaser

I still remember stumbling out of the theatre after seeing Pi, my mind reeling from the conceptual and visual assault that it had just undergone. And I remember stumbling out of the theatre after seeing Requiem For A Dream, my soul reeling from the tragedy and suffering it had just witnessed. If the new teaser for Darren Aronofsky’s The Fountain is any indication, I fully expect to leave the theatre reeling once again.

I’ve been waiting for this movie for years, ever since rumors of the script first surfaced — Aronofsky is one of the few directors who instantly perks up my ears the instant his name is mentioned. The film seemed set back indefinitely when Brad Pitt bowed out, but Aronofsky went ahead with it anyways, with Hugh Jackman — who is great in the X-Men movies (but you already knew that) — and the luminous Rachel Weisz.

Although the 30-second teaser doesn’t reveal much, the imagery it contains is just fantastic. I’m getting a definite Kubrick/2001 vibe in some of those shots — like the one of that sphere shooting through space. I like the fact that they’re keeping things mysterious. Although it’s pretty obvious that the plot revolves around the fountain of youth, the rest is left up to the imagination. And what little is shown definitely gets mine going.

Watch the trailer at Apple. Thanks to Twitch for the little reminder.
