The Brothers Martin

Before there was Joy Electric and Starflyer 59, there was Dance House Children. And now, the Bothers Martin have reunited as… well… The Brothers Martin, and they’ll be releasing an album in 2007 on (big surprise) Tooth & Nail Records.

The first song, “Fears To Remember,” leans a bit more towards Joy Electric’s sound, with some Starflyer guitar treatments in the background (all in all, it reminds me of a ligher, fluffier Lansing-Dreiden). On the other hand, “Money” is obviously coming from the Starflyer end of the spectrum due to its guitar-centrism, while Ronnie’s synths squiggle and drift in the background, giving the song a classic Cure feel.

There’s no denying that the brothers’ sounds complement each other quite nicely. Fans have been clamoring for the brothers to get back together for years, and if these songs are any indication, the reunion won’t disappoint.

In related news, Joy Electric’s next release, The Otherly Opus, will come out December 5, 2006.
