“Tell Me” by Spectres

Listen to the first single from the Vancouver post-punk outfit’s upcoming album.

Vancouver’s Spectres — one of my favorite post-punk bands in recent memory — have announced a new album titled Hindsight. “Tell Me” is the first single from the album, and it picks up right where 2020’s excellent Nostalgia left off.

While Spectres’ latest contains plenty of crystalline guitars, clockwork rhythms, and chilled synths — i.e., precisely what I want to hear in my post-punk — the song’s main draw is Brian Gustavson’s voice. On “Tell Me,” he affects a Morrissey-like croon as he sings “Visions I’ve had from the top of despair/Whatever you’re doing I’m already there.”

Hindsight will be released on November 5, 2021 by Artoffact Records and is currently available for preorder.
