Speed Racer not nominated for 2008 Visual Effects Oscar

I realize that Speed Racer wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea (personally, I loved it). Still, I find it very odd that it wasn’t even nominated for a “Visual Effects” Oscar this year. Quantum of Solace got nominated, but as much I enjoyed that movie, I don’t recall it having any visuals that were even half as stunning or intriguing as those in Speed Racer.
