Social Networking with ExpressionEngine

Ryan Irelan is posting a series of articles on his blog about building a social networking tool with ExpressionEngine (part 1, part 2). EE doesn’t have social networking functionality by default, so Irelan has written a couple of custom modules for managing “networks” and “friends,” both of which I hope are released to the public sometime soon.
