Some of my fondest video game-related memories involve playing some of the early entries in the celebrated Ace Combat series. In fact, I’ve had a fondness for flight simulators ever since I first booted up F-15 Strike Eagle on my dad’s Commodore 64 back in the ‘80s.
So watching the trailers for Fractal Phase’s recently released Sky Rogue — “a fwooshy rogue-lite action flight simulator” now available on Steam — has me itching to relive the Top Gun and Iron Eagle fantasies of my inner fourth grader.
I particularly love Sky Rogue’s stylized look, which trades ultra-CGI photorealism for bright (almost garish) colors, fantastical looking aircraft (shades of Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere there), and an abundance of polygons.
Sky Rogue is currently available for Windows, OS X, and Linux.
