Pieter Nooten’s Latest: Here Is Why

Here Is Why - Pieter Nooten

Once upon a time, there was a band named Clan of Xymox that released some excellent goth-y ethereal synth-pop on the venerable 4AD label. One of the band’s members — Pieter Nooten — would subsequently collaborate with influential producer/guitarist Michael Brook and release Sleeps With the Fishes, the greatest 4AD album that nobody seems to know about.

That was nearly twenty years ago. Since then, Nooten has kept busy releasing a slew of solo albums and compilation appearances. His newest album is entitled Here Is Why and will be released by Rocket Girl on September 6, 2010.

Some quick Googling turned up the album’s Amazon UK page, which contains several samples. A quick listen reveals that not much has changed since Nooten’s 4AD days — which is absolutely fine with me. Nooten’s delicate, finely detailed synth work and moody, contemplative ambience will never go out of style as far as I’m concerned.
