News Aplenty

Ester Drang just signed to Jade Tree. Their new album, titled Infinite Keys will be released on April 1, 2003, with the vinyl available through the band’s old label, Burnt Toast Vinyl. The band is also planning a March tour with Denison Witmer and Unwed Sailor (whose new album is also coming out around the same time).

Joy Electric’s new album, The Tick Tock Treasury, will be released on March 25th, with a tour also in the works. The Joy Electric documentary, with live interviews and concert footage, has just been finished. No release date has been set, but one should be soon. Also, there’s a great interview with Ronnie Martin (Mr. Joy E. himself) on the band’s website. I’ve always loved and respected Martin’s music. Most people find his music cheesy or disposable or whatever, but I’ve always found an incredible integrity in the way he approaches his music and craft. Reading this interview reminded me of that once again.

And yes, “We Are Rock” is one of the finest songs he’s ever written.

Finally, Stereolab’s Mary Hansen was killed Monday when she was hit by a car while riding her bike in London. Another article about the accident, including fans’ reactions, can be found here.
