New trailer for Makoto Shinkai’s Children Who Chase Lost Voices From Deep Below is a lovely work

I’ve never made any attempt to hide my appreciation for the films of Makoto Shinkai. They’re not without their flaws, but as far as I’m concerned, their gorgeous animation and heartfelt stories puts Shinkai in the upper echelon of anime filmmakers, and I’m always excited whenever the man announces that he’s working on something new. Which brings us to Children Who Chase Lost Voices From Deep Below, which is shaping up to be Shinkai’s most ambitious project to date. Here’s a brief synopsis:

The story centers on Asuna, a girl who spends her solitary days listening to the mysterious music emanating from the crystal radio she received from her father as a memento. However, she embarks on a journey of adventure to meet a boy again, and thus comes to know the cruelty and beauty of the world, as well as loss.

Twitch has posted the latest full-length trailer for Children Who Chase Lost Voices From Deep Below, and while it’s in Japanese, you don’t need to understand what’s being said to admire Shinkai’s lovely-as-ever visuals and the scope of the storytelling (which feels very Miyazaki-esque to me).
