A New Trailer for David Lowery’s The Green Knight

I really, really hope this turns out to be a great Arthurian movie.

Last February, A24 dropped a teaser for The Green Knight, an Arthurian-inspired movie from David Lowery (A Ghost Story, Ain’t Them Bodies Saints). Over a year later, the full trailer has finally been released, and it’s just as spectacular-looking as the teaser.

Based on Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, a 14th century poem that’s one of the most popular and well-known Arthurian stories, The Green Knight tells the tale of the young, impulsive Sir Gawain (Dev Patel), King Arthur’s nephew, who undergoes a deadly challenge put forth by the otherworldly Green Knight.

As I wrote in my post concerning the original teaser, “Lowery… seems to be going for an aesthetic that walks the line between gritty realism and fairy tale-ish otherworldliness.” In any case, I’m very intrigued, and like Steven D. Greydanus, I really want The Green Knight to be a great Arthurian movie.

The Green Knight, which also stars Joel Edgerton and Alicia Vikander, arrives in theaters on July 30.
