Thirty years ago this month, The Cure released Wish, arguably their last consistently great album. Wish was also my gateway to The Cure, the first album of theirs that I really, truly got into. And while nostalgia certainly plays a role in my assessment, I still think it’s a great album filled with Cure classics. So to celebrate the album’s anniversary, this month’s playlist — titled “30 Wishes” — features 30 of my favorite Cure songs from throughout their long and storied career.
Accompanying the playlist is the latest episode of my“Playlist Breakdown” podcast, in which I spotlight one of the playlist’s songs and why it’s so special and meaningful. In this episode, I discuss “This Twilight Garden,” a Wish B-side that’s one of the dreamiest and most romantic songs in The Cure’s catalog.
