Miyazaki’s Next

I just saw this over on Twitch: the next film by acclaimed animator/storyteller Hayao Miyazaki will be an adaptation of the Chinese novel I Lost My little Boy, which revolves around a young boy with heart disease.

Which, as some have pointed out, seems a little too depressing for Miyazaki, whose works, while melancholy in some aspects, are often fairly lighthearted and whimsical. But I suppose if anyone can turn such a premise into something magical as well as poignant, it’s the creator of Totoro.
