Makoto Shinkai

A few months ago, I reviewed Voices Of A Distant Star, the debut animation from Makoto Shinkai. Despite being a first effort, it showed considerable talent, and had me eagerly awaiting Shinkai’s next project, The Place Promised In Our Youth. I downloaded the gorgeous trailer from Shinkai’s website, but since it was all in Japanese, I was left clueless as to the storyline (you can find a rough translation of the trailer here).

I recently stumbled across this Shinkai fansite, which has some great info on Shinkai’s next, as does the April issue of Newtype USA. From the few details I’ve read, it promises to be as moving as Voices…, if not moreso, and I can hardly wait to see it. Sadly, it won’t be coming out until later this year, but based upon what I’ve seen in Voices…, it’ll be worth the wait.
