Last Exile

I dropped by AnimatedBliss and saw this little nugget of gold: the first volume of Last Exile will be coming out on DVD on November 18.

I watched a fansub a few weeks ago, and was immediately intrigued. Despite having some of the most incoherent subtitles I’ve ever seen, I just fell in love with the artwork and animation, courtesy of Gonzo (Blue Submarine No. 6, Yukikaze). The style is very reminiscent of the great Castle In the Sky, with strange aircraft and floating cities set in what looks like 18th century Europe. I can’t wait to see this with a decent translating job, as it certainly looks to be one of the more unique offerings this year.
