The Lassie Foundation’s Shoegaze Classic California Is Being Reissued

Originally released in 1996 by Velvet Blue Music, The Lassie Foundation’s California was a pretty highly anticipated release in Chrindie circles, seeing as how it was a new project from members of The Prayer Chain. And it did not disappoint, delivering five songs of sun-drenched, fuzzed-out shoegaze replete with blown out guitars, Wayne Everett’s soaring vocals, and Eric Campuzano’s wistful lyrics (read my review).

(Fun little personal note: If you were a girl that I had crush on during the late ’90s/early ’00s, and I made a mixtape for you, then chances are it included “I Can Be Her Man” and/or “I’m Stealin’ to Be Your One in a Million.”)

The EP has languished since then, though its songs appeared on 2006’s Through and Through retrospective. But now California has been remastered by the legendary Chris Colbert (Breakfast With Amy, Duraluxe, Fluffy) and will be re-released on April 2 along with several demo tracks.
