Jóhann Jóhannsson signs with FatCat Records, preps new work for mid-2011

Back in November, FatCat Records announced that they were signing Jóhann Jóhannsson to their 130701 sub-label:

Jóhann Jóhannsson is an Icelandic musician, composer, producer and an active member of the country’s artistic community (as co-founder of the Kitchen Motors label / think tank / art collective, founder member of Apparat Organ Quartet and also as a serial collaborator). His lushly sophisticated and hauntingly melodic music has been quietly bewitching listeners for some time — with several full-lengths released on the reknowned Touch and 4AD labels, as well as numerous scores for for film and theatre…

…[he] will feature alongside FatCat staples Max Richter and Hauschka at the Barbican’s Steve Reich weekender in May 2011. Titled Reverberations, the weekend features four Reich premières and performances by some vital contemporary artists, including the Kronos Quartet, Bang On A Can, Clogs / Bryce Dessner and Tyondai Braxton.

Jóhannsson’s first album for 130701 — which focuses on modern classical pieces, and has released titles by Max Richter and Set Fire To Flames, to name a few — will be released in May 2011. Jóhannsson’s most recent work is And In The Endless Pause There Came The Sound Of Bees (Type Records, 2010), a soundtrack for the animated short Varmints.
