I’m addicted to these new Toro Y Moi songs

I wasn’t too blown away by what I heard of Toro Y Moi’s debut album, Causers of This. But Mr. Chazwick Bundick has a new album entitled Underneath the Pine coming out later this month on Carpark Records, and I’m absolutely loving the first two singles — “Still Sound” and “New Beat” — that have been released within the last month or so.

“Still Sound”

“New Beat”

Even a cursory listen will reveal that a title like “New Beat” is at least somewhat ironic. Toro Y Moi’s sound is hopelessly and blissfully adrift on a sea of nostalgia, lost in a hazy sound that evokes 70’s AM gold, 80’s yacht rock, and 90’s R&B in equal measure. And I can’t get enough of it.
