Hayao Miyazaki’s Nausicaä coming to Blu-ray in 2011

The director’s early film will arrive here in the States on Blu-ray on March 8, 2011.
Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind - Hayao Miyazaki

According to Japanator, Hayao Miyazaki’s Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (read my review) will be released on Blu-ray here in the States on March 8, 2011 — see the Amazon page for more details. Nausicaä isn’t my favorite Miyazaki film, and of his eco-fantasies, I prefer Princess Mononoke, but it’s a solid film nevertheless and to have it on Blu-ray — assuming that Disney doesn’t skimp on the Blu-ray process — will be a nice treat.

The film was released on Blu-ray in Japan back in July, with some gorgeous artwork that I much prefer to the artwork that Amazon has for the U.S. release. Our friends in Japan will be able to pick up Blu-rays of Laputa: Castle in the Sky and My Neighbors the Yamadas later this month (and both feature cover art in the same classy, minimal style as the Japanese Nausicaä Blu-ray). So presumably, more Studio Ghibli titles will be making their way to Blu-ray here in the States in the not too distant future.
