Harvey Strikes Again

According to this article, Miramax has signed a deal giving them distribution and remake rights to a number of movies from the legendary Shaw Brothers movie library (a veritable treasure trove of Asian cinema). Of course, it’s highly unlikely that we’ll ever see these movies in the way they were intended, given Miramax’ spotty track record.

After all, this is the company that has butchered many an Asian movie with horrible dubbing, editing, and promotion, including Hero, one of the biggest Asian films of 2002 (and a nominee for this year’s “Best Foreign Film.”) We’ll probably get to see crappy American remakes before we get to see the originals in all of their glory.
