Happy Thanksgiving!

As you go home to be with your loved ones and enjoy mass quantities of turkey, stuffing, and pumpkin pie, be sure to take some time to reflect on what you’re really thankful for. And no, I’m not referring to your car, nice apartment, or even a somewhat successful website. Maybe for some of you it’s your friends, maybe it’s your family, maybe it’s the just fact that you’re alive.

I think we focus too much on the excesses of life, and that’s especially true of the holiday season. Thanksgiving — and Christmas, which is just around the corner — aren’t about excess. They’re about boiling life down to the essentials, to those things that really matter: friends, family, and life. I hope you’ll take some time to do that amidst all of the crass consumerism that bloats these special days.

With that little rant in mind, have a safe journey and don’t get too sick from all of the turkey you’ll eat. Be sure to have enough whipped cream for all of the pumpkin pie. And remember, there’s always a place for you here at the table.
