Gonzo is Preparing a Last Exile Sequel

According to Anime News Network, Gonzo is revisiting the series with Last Exile -Fam, The Silver Wing-, “a new series of ‘LASTEXILE’ with the new story, characters, and mechanical designs.” Now honestly, this news both excites and worries me. I’m excited because Last Exile is one of my favorite anime series of all time and, hey, this means more Last Exile and another chance to explore the series’ fascinating world.

However, I’m also worried because Gonzo is looking to take advantage of emerging 3D television technology, and anytime you slap “3D” onto something, it all-too-often feels gimmicky. Plus, the artwork that accompanied this announcement looks like crap:

No specific release date has been announced other than some time in Spring 2011. For nostalgia’s sake, I’ve embedded the original series’ (clean) opening, which provides a good look at its style.
