Friday Night Low

I think it’s safe to say that Low’s Drums And Guns will be on my year-end list, as it’s managed to somehow burrow its way deep into my subconscious. Sadly, the band’s current tour schedule doesn’t bring them anywhere close to Lincoln (the closest is Davenport, IA on June 13).

Thankfully, the kind folks at NPR have recorded the band’s recent performance in Washington D.C. and have placed the concert online for my downloading pleasure (and your’s) — click here for the goods.

The” class=“redactor-autoparser-object”>http://www.npr.org/templates/s… music of Low is dark and mysteriously haunting with a sonic depth that radiates well beyond its brooding, spare arrangements. On their latest CD, Drums and Guns, the trio offers a stark examination of war, grief and regret with songs like “Murderer,” “Your Poison,” and “Violent Past.” The band showcases its new album, along with selections from a back catalog spanning nearly 15 years, in a full concert from Washington, D.C.‘s 9:30 Club. The concert, which featured an opening performance by Loney, Dear, originally webcast live on NPR.org Apr. 10, 2007.

Also available is a webcast of opening act Loney, Dear’s performance, as well as audio interviews with both Low and Loney, Dear and slideshows of their performances.
