There are times when, frankly, running Opus gets to be more a chore and a bother than anything else. But then there are those times when I’m thrilled to be writing about the music and movies that I’m discovering, to share them with anyone who wanders by. Right now is one of those moments.

I’ve just finished taking screen caps for my review of Infernal Affairs, and I got practically giddy as I replayed the movie, sometimes frame by frame, to get that perfect still. Watching scenes play out, picking out nuances that only surface with repeated viewings, etc. This is one great flick, folks.

The same goes for Hero. I watched it last night with some friends, and I still find myself replaying the final scenes over and over in my head, getting chills whenever I remember a certain scene or line. I’m still processing this movie, and I hope to be able to put my thoughts down into some semblance of a review for y’all.

As for music, Zelienople has been a constant fixture in my stereo, one of those bands that comes out of nowhere but just bowls me over. The same goes for Labradford’s Fixed:Context, which I just rediscovered today and have been listening to constantly ever since.

Mr. 1986’s CD felt like a breath of fresh air. Yeah, they’re another one of the loud instrumental bands, but they bring such spontaneity and energy to the formula that it can feel brand new. Marianas’ debut should be arriving in the next few weeks, and it’s great to be able to promote friends who are making great art.

Maybe it’s just sudden turn of gorgeous weather we’re having, but I’m feeling a bit more optimistic than usual. We don’t really have spring here in Nebraska. It’s more like a 3 month period where Summer and Winter slug it out. But right now, it feels like Summer might have the upper hand. Even with the crappy situations around the world, this is one of those times that you remember when things really hit the fan. I know it won’t last forever, and that come tomorrow, I’ll probably be right back in the trenches. But I’m going to enjoy this for all I can.
