My Bloody Valentine
My Bloody Valentine

I’ll believe it when my ears are actually ringing from Kevin Shields’ blisteringly beautiful soundscapes, but a new My Bloody Valentine album might be coming out this year.

Speaking of My Bloody Valentine, Aaron Coleman reviews Japancakes’ take on MBV’s classic Loveless. My own review is here.

I’m so freaking tired of folks accusing Apple of having a monopoly over the on-line music downloading market due to iTunes and the iPod. And so this article by Dan Moren, in which he exposes some of lunacy behind such accusations, makes me very happy. Via

So, was Radiohead’s recent “name your own price” purchasing scheme for In Rainbows a bust? I don’t think so, and neither do these folks. From the PopMatters article: “So even if you wanna low-ball the figure, they minted a couple of million from the downloads. That doesn’t include the people who ordered the $80 boxset set (non-negotiable) plus however many copies that they’re gonna sell next year when they actually put out a CD of the same record. In other words, ka-ching! How many acts can you think of can also say that they pocketed a couple of million dollars from one album? And it doesn’t hurt that the album is pretty darn good, too.”

A new Macross series titled Macross F is in the works. Series creator Shoji Kawamori will be working on it, as well as Yoko Kanno, one of the finest composers working today (anime or otherwise). You can watch a promotional video featuring all of the characters, as well as the new mecha here.

The film adaptation of Philip Pullman’s The Golden Compass, the first book in the “His Dark Materials” trilogy, hits theatres soon. A lot of folks are concerned by this, due to the book’s explicit anti-Christian stance, but perhaps they don’t need to be.

Here’s one for the bookmarks/feedreader: PSDTuts, for all of your Photoshop tutorial needs. Love the layout and color scheme, by the way.

Halo 3 may have received all of the press, but personally, I’ve probably been looking forward to Mass Effect a bit more overall. I love me some Master Chief, but dang, this new trailer looks awesome. Make sure you watch it in HD, natch.

Behold, the trailer for The Sasquatch Gang. They had me at “From The folks who brought you Napolean Dynamite.”
