Disappointments, Golden Greats, and the Decade’s Defining Films

Ah, lists. Where would the blogosphere be without them? Two of my fave bloggers — Josh Hurst and Brett McCracken — have recently posted several lists that are well worth your perusal.

First up is Hurst’s “Overhyped, Overblown, Overrated: The Most Disappointing Albums of 2007,” which pokes holes into the hype surrounding several of the biggest records of the year. He also takes a little jab at Coldplay. Did I mention I love this guy?

On the flip side is his list of “Eleven Golden Greats,” or as Hurst puts it, albums that “are all, in some way, responsible for expanding, refining, and, more often than not, screwing with my conceptions of what music is and should be” and “albums that have colored the lenses through which I view the world.”

Meanwhile, McCracken has posted his list of the “Top Twenty Defining Films of the 00s,” which includes Lynch, Malick, Coppola, and many more.
