“Camino Reel” by Unwed Sailor
The post-rock outfit’s newest single recalls the fuzz-laden shoegaze of early Swervedriver.
Less than a year has passed since Unwed Sailor released their last album — the excellent Heavy Age — but Johnathon Ford’s venerable post-rock band just keeps chugging (or is that sailing?) on. The band just released the first single from their upcoming Look Alive album.
Titled “Camino Reel,” the track has all of the usual Unwed Sailor touchstones, beginning with Ford’s dextrous basslines. But whereas Heavy Age was often brooding and, well, heavy, “Camino Reel” is bright and lively, bringing to mind the driving, fuzz-laden shoegaze of Raise-era Swervedriver.
Look Alive will be released on June 10, 2020 by Old Bear Records. It’ll be available on CD, vinyl, and digitally. (Or, if you’re feeling old school, you can pre-order a cassette copy.)
