One of the great joys of Clara’s arrival has been to see the responses of her two brothers. Our second son, Ian, has been pretty ambivalent. He’ll give her hugs and kisses, but he’s just as content to go off and explore the hospital or play with his grandparents.
Our firstborn, Simon, on the other hand, has taken his role as big brother very seriously. One might even say he’s become obsessed with his baby sister. He always wants to hold her, and he does a very good job of it (better than me, even). He’ll gladly hold her for an hour or more, all the while showering her with kisses and gentle words.
I know that at some point, the spell will be broken and chaos will ensue — but I’m enjoying magical moments like the one pictured above for all they’re worth while they last.
