TimeAsia just published a review of Battle Royale II. I find it interesting that almost everyone who writes about the first Battle Royale goes on and on about how misanthropic and violent it is, and completely misses the sarcasm, satire, and sorrow that filtered throughout the film.

It sounds like the sequel is a more straightforward action movie. Everything I’ve read indicates that the drama and tragedy that permeated the first movie, and that made it so good, is missing this time around. I’m still looking forward to seeing the sequel, though I’ll likely have to do the import thing again, since no American distributor is brave (and/or stupid) enough to release it here.
