Apple presents a new trailer for Evangelion 2.0

Evangelion 2.0: You Can (Not) Advance, the second installment in Gainax’s four-part “rebuild” of the seminal anime series, will have a limited theatrical release starting next week. As such, a new trailer has just appeared on Apple’s website, and I have to say, it looks pretty awesome. But then again, I’m a sucker for Evangelion.

If the trailer is any indication, then animation-wise, Evangelion 2.0 is going to look amazing — Studio Khara (the studio set up by series creator Hideaki Anno to handle the Evangelion rebuild) have certainly pulled out all of the stops. The trailer includes several iconic scenes from the series, and they look better than ever. But what I find particularly interesting is that the trailer indicates that the second film begins diverging from the original series significantly, even introducing a new main character or two.

Alas, the theatrical release doesn’t come anywhere really close to Lincoln (see schedule), but Funimation has announced plans to release Evangelion 2.0 on DVD/Blu-ray later in 2011.
