Aang Returns for Some More Airbending

Avatar: The Last Airbender

I’ve yet to meet anyone who has watched Avatar: The Last Airbender and not become a fan. It’s just that kind of show, one that looks like kiddie entertainment but turns out to be surprisingly deep and thought-provoking in decidedly non-childish ways. And I’ve yet to meet anyone who has watched the series and doesn’t want more adventures in the four nations. Thankfully, fans have a whole slew of airbending and avatar-ing awaiting them in the coming months.

Nickelodeon recently announced that Aang and his friends will be returning for some new adventures in comic book form, thanks to a partnership with Dark Horse Comics. Here’s the basic rundown of what will be released:

  • Two new short stories that will be released on Free Comic Book Day (May 7).
  • Avatar: The Last Airbender — The Lost Adventures, a 240-page comic book that “contains over 70 pages of never-before-seen material in addition to long-out-of-print comics previously published in Nickelodeon Magazine”.
  • An all-new Airbender comic series starting in early 2012 that picks up right after the series finale and follows “the further adventures of Aang and his friends, as they help to rebuild a world torn apart by 100 years of war.”

And let’s not forget The Legend of Korra, the animated sequel to Avatar: The Last Airbender that is due out some time in 2011. Yes, it’s truly a good time to be a fan of Team Avatar.
