A Couple o’ Tidbits

Just a few news items that I’ve collected over the past couple of days. Some good, some bad…

Those of us who know and love the films of Hayao Miyazaki may have cause to celebrate. It’s rumored that several of his movies will finally be released here in the U.S. on DVD. Castle In The Sky, Kiki’s Delivery Service, and Spirited Away are all scheduled to come out in April. What’s more, they’ll all be 2 disc sets. Normally, I’d be a bit skeptical, but it looks like it’s the real deal. Woohoo!

AICN has posted a review of Hero (which contains some potential spoilers). I doubt it will come anywhere near Lincoln (though you never know not that the Ross Film Theatre has reopened). However, the film does come out on DVD in late February, so I’ll be snatching a copy up then. Thank God for region free DVD players.

I just found this out… Kinji Fukasaku (who directed Battle Royale and died earlier this week) also directed a film called The Green Slime, which was the first film given the Mystery Science Theatre 3000 treatment. Now, I know some of you might consider that a dubious honor, but that’s another milestone in my book.

Tonight I’ll be catching Interpol and Calla up in Omaha (barring any car issues). Expect pretty photos (and maybe even a concert review — remember those?) to hit the site soon.
