When the film worked — which it did, more often than not — it left me positively giddy with a huge smile on my face.

Consider it the filmic equivalent of a bacon double cheeseburger with a big side of greasy fries.

It’s almost subversive at the same time, the way it blends such solid characters with plenty of gore and some wicked humor.
