Sky Rogue Fills the Sky with Nostalgia and Lots of Polygons

I’m itching to relive the Top Gun and Iron Eagle fantasies of my inner fourth grader.

Some of my fondest video game-related memories involve playing some of the early entries in the celebrated Ace Combat series. In fact, I’ve had a fondness for flight simulators ever since I first booted up F-15 Strike Eagle on my dad’s Commodore 64 back in the ’80s.

So watching the trailers for Fractal Phase’s recently released Sky Rogue — “a fwooshy rogue-lite action flight simulator” now available on Steam — has me itching to relive the Top Gun and Iron Eagle fantasies of my inner fourth grader.

I particularly love Sky Rogue’s stylized look, which trades ultra-CGI photorealism for bright (almost garish) colors, fantastical looking aircraft (shades of Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere there), and an abundance of polygons.

Sky Rogue is currently available for Windows, OS X, and Linux.
