Secret Pyramid’s The Silent March to Be Reissued by Students of Decay

Another brilliantly subtle release from one of my favorite ambient musicians in recent years.
The Silent March - Secret Pyramid

Last year, Secret Pyramid released Movements of Night, one of my favorite drone/ambient/post-rock albums in recent history. On the album’s eight songs, Amir Abbey demonstrated an amazing amount of control and restraint, crafting ambient soundscapes whose depths were equally matched by their subtlety and brevity. As a follow-up, Students of Decay is re-issuing The Silent March, which was originally released on cassette by Nice Up International in 2011.

Students of Decay have posted three tracks from the album on Soundcloud, and they reveal the same mastery of atmosphere and tension so evident on Movements of Night. “Come Down Gently” is especially nice, with shoegazer-y walls of sound and vaguely orchestral flourishes creating a beautifully elegiac ambience that ends on a bittersweet and introspective tone. Meanwhile, Morricone-esque acoustic guitar strums and distant vocals make “Her Spirits” absolute must-hear material for Labradford fans.

The Silent March will be released this November on vinyl. The first 100 preorders will also receive a copy of Secret Pyramid’s forthcoming Into the Black live cassette.
